How much can fishing forecasts be trusted?
There are weather websites that tell when fishing will be excellent, good, fair, or poor in your area. How reliable is this information? Should I use it to plan fishing outings?
I just thought of something....the people who can answer this are probably out fishing. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Joe--I'm a novice, and the info given to me by experienced fishermen is not that good. Yes, I am interested in the science behind it.

There are lots of factors that go into whether fish will bite: The moon and/or tides are one, which is what most fishing forecasts are based on. But things like the current weather (barometer rising or falling, direct sun (warms the water), wind (cools the water), water clarity, presence/absence of forage, and a number of other factors, really aren't foreseeable, or are dependent on precisely where you're fishing. Then in addition, different species can react differently to the same conditions.
So a fishing forecast is just the weatherman's best guess as to how the conditions he can measure will affect the fishing, but since we know less about fish behavior than about the weather, the fishing forecasts aren't nearly as reliable as the weather forecasts. They might be accurate sometimes, but really the only way to know when the fish will bite is to get out there and cast out a line.

well if the site is well trusted and people have commented that it does well then yes they can be reliable but you have to do a background check on em you know really get deep into their stuff if your going to know if they are good and accurate.

I don't like computers and mathematical data telling me if a fish will bite my hook, do you?
