Best beaches near Oxnard, California?

I will be in Oxnard, CA in about a week and I am just wondering which / where are the best beaches near there. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children (12 & 16). We want something that isnt practically deserted but not too overcrowded. Family oriented. Also, most of the "family" type beaches I have read about say small waves. I dont really know exactly what that means but we like to have some waves as long as they arent too big. Like big enough to use boogie boards but I dont want to get into "surfing" areas. Any suggestions?

Is it worth a 30 min drive to go to Zuma beach? I heard its very clean and well rounded. Also, lifeguards are preferred. Harbor Cove Beach? San Buenaventura Beach? thanks
