and of course the ones already mentioned like: Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, Forest Gump, Schindlers List, et.al. including yours -- I just LOVE war movies. It's my second favorite theme behind comedies.
I would give the best performance to Tom Hanks for both Forest Gump and Saving Private Ryan. I have to mention Mel Gibson in We Were Soldiers, Braveheart, and The Patriot, and finally I think George C Scott's Patton speech was VERY convincing -- also an excellent performance.
Nice question ! I really like these types.

There is a movie called Casualties Of War with Michael J Fox & Sean Penn.
This movie deals with the realities of what some soldiers are capable of.
In this movie it deals with the evil minds of some soldiers of war.
Its a harsh reality but it has happened.
This took place during the Vietnam War.
Some of the scenes in this movie are pretty hard to watch.
Its a Brian DePalma film.

Saving Private Ryan was my first war movie... unless Forrest Gump count as one with their brief Vietnam War scene. But I'm more of an avid fan of Asian movies so I would go with Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War. It is one of South Korea's highest grossing film. It's about the Korean War :)

I have adult ADD and it is extremely difficult for me to follow the plot of a film. Saving Private Ryan was the best war movie ever in my opinion. I also enjoyed Inglorious Basterds. To me, Christoph Waltz made Inglorious Basterds an awesome movie. His character was so unfeeling and cold-blooded.

Personally I haven't scene many. But I love Tropical Thunder, that's a comedy war-ish movie. Full Metal Jacket is awesome too.
