depends. There are many powerlifting programs, just as there are many bodybuilding, general fitness, cardio, etc programs. Look up Westside barbell, starting strength, Westside for Skinny Bastards, Jim Wendler's 5-3-1, 5x5, if you want some basic stuff to look at.

In general, you'll be working up on your compound lifts to a few (1-3) sets of less than five reps. Supplemental lifts are less important, and concentrate on muscle groups that help your compound lifts... triceps, hamstrings, lower back, shoulders, etc.

It's fairly complicated, it's best if you look at one of the above programs or another one of your choice. Powerlifting, like most other competitive lifting programs, are fairly dependent on your weaknesses and what you can handle.

"Is it too late for me to go to powerlifting?" "I always wanted to become an amateur bodybuilder and i train for size not for strength." Those two contradict each other. Powerlifting is for strength, bodybuilding is for aesthetics (size and general looks). There is a really big difference. If you want to do either, you can still start up. If you want to be an Olympic powerlifter, I think it's too late, but other than that I think the door's still wide open. "And can someone tell me the basics of powerlifting how do these people get this strong to bench 1000+." 1. Eat more food in a day than most people eat in a week 2. Lift heavyass weights 3. Get 8+ hours of rest a night 4. Have crazy genetics
