super beetle runs rough?
dual port, 34pic3 carb. took out tank, full of water. flushed tank, fuel lines, replaced filter, cleaned carb and all jets. idles great, runs great in 1st gear, but in second runs rough, loses power, esp when going up hill. barely made it home. still idles great. where should I start? thanks in advance!

Start by changing the plugs, which may have rusted from the water in the fuel. Change the wires/cap/rotor, & adjust the valves & timing. Check the vacuum lines for cracks.

do what that guy said. also a compression test would should be in order. losing power on a hill is a good indication of a tired engine thats in need of a top end rebuild
look for about 110-150psi per cylinder. a difference of more than 10psi is a sign of a weak cylinder for a bug
