Try Spanish for the area name. I don't know what they call it. The only place true Latin is the first language spoken anymore (it's not dead yet) is in a small group at the top of the Dolomite mountains in North-Eastern Italy.

Because when the Spanish came over from Europe and conquered central (or as we know it today, Latin) America, they forced the natives to speak their own language. So the Spanish language spread through the region giving the result that we see today.

    Latin America.

The main official languages in the region - Spanish, Portuguese (and French) are derived from Latin.

Because they're ancestors aren't from Italy, they're from Spain. I would think Spain was colonized by barbarians and such shortly before the greek era as the Roman's regularly annexed the Spanish for their legions.
