How can a 10 year old help homeless animals?

I really want to help homeless animals, because I just finished the book," A Dog's Purpose." I know I can donate, but I want to do something more. I want to volunteer at a pound or something, to care for the animals, but I'm only ten. We don't have many stray animals, besides lots of cats that multiply rapidly. I am talking about mostly dogs, but I am willing to care for any animal.

Update:

You have helped a lot, so far. I have emailed the local shelters near where I live...no reply yet, but I don't expect one as soon as I send it. Thanks for the answers so far!

Call your local animal shelter and ask about volunteer work there.

My younger sister wanted to do something like this too and she called and in my city they take any volunteers over the age of 10.

    Good luck! :)

Hi there! I am 15 years old, but my cousin is 10 and we do volunteer work like this all the time! It is so much fun to be able to help out, and it is the best feeling in the world when you can actually get an animal adopted. I am involved with a group called the Animal Adoption League. It works with all sorts of groups, including the ASPCA and the HALO Association, to rescue animals, foster them out and find them the right home. When I help out, it is typically when they are at PetSmart on Saturday Mornings...they switch PetSmarts throughout the month, so I only get the chance to do it a couple times each month, but it is for 3 hours each time, I get to do it with my cousins and my aunt, I get to meet amazing people, spend time with amazing animals, and make a difference in their lives. Even if it just means holding a leash or holding a lonely puppy until someone comes up and asks you about it and finally chooses to adopt it, you are still having a great time making a great difference. :)))

Also, you could consider fostering a dog...my aunt has 3 dogs of her own, but she always has 1 or more foster dogs that she is taking care of and trying to find a home for.

It is so admirable that you want to help out! I love it when people care enough to go out and look for ways to help those who cannot help themselves...

    Good luck!!! :))))

Hi! I'm 13, and i volunteered at my local animal shelter. You can go into the shelter, and ask if you can volunteer. What jobs i did were mostly walking the dogs down the street. But, its probably different in your shelters, so you will just have to go in the shop and ask to volunteer. then they will assign you to different jobs each day you come in. hope i helped :)
