I'm 29 and want to start playing hockey,?

I've never played on a team and am better on rollerblades than on ice, but I obviously want to play on ice (or I'd have said roller hockey!)...

I'm overweight/out of shape and am a beginner on ice - I've considered joining a women's league but kind of think I'd like to play co-ed.

Have any of you played in a co=ed instructional league (like HNA or the Hockey Academy or whatever)? How was it? Were the guys okay with girls being there? How are 'D' leagues? Are the games fun, or are they just a bad news bears -type mess?

Also, I have semi-wide, kind of flat, feet... I'm told Reebok skates are probably what I want to go with because of the shape of my feet - any thoughts/recommendations?

Update:

Let me clarify: I *can* ice skate, but my skating isn't quite hockey caliber, if that makes sense. I'm not a flailing mess or anything, I just need to do it more to feel better about it (huge difference from inlines).

Update 2:

I'm in Boston, so if you're local and know of a decent league, please speak up. I want to do this for fun and because I love the game; I'm almost 30 and am not expecting to make anything out of this - I don't expect to be making Team USA or anything -- just looking for a good league and trying to see what my options are.

If you can, see if your local college has a hockey PE class you can take. Otherwise look for hockey skating clinics to get started. There should be tons of clinics in the Boston area.

You could probably join some amateur league but if your expecting to join the ranks of the national Canadian women's team, you`ve missed that train, unless your unbelievably gifted at your age.
