Do black Americans feel let down by Barack Obama?
After the elation of Obama being elected, what has he done in the USA to seriously address the social injustices that still exist in the country. It seems from my perspective in the UK that Obama seems to be doing more internationally than he is at home, and yet there is so much that needs doing in the USA. Gun crime and poverty is a huge issue, and it disproportionately affects black people, who surely feel let down by a president who they voted for in the belief that he would care more about black people than previous white presidents. What is Obama doing to create equality in USA? Surely he needs to implement radical social change, otherwise he is failing the poor.

I'm sure some black people think he's the best thing to ever happen but there will also be some who can't really see the difference. Can't please everyone, that's the dilema of the politician. Especially when you consider how much power they actually have, not as much as people imagine. They're only there to give you the impression you have a choice.
Obama is often described as the most powerful man in the world as are all US presidents. I don't believe that, I would say that if there was a list of 1000 most powerful men in the world, no US president would not be on it.

You are obvivouly miss informed about the role the president is supposed to play. But that is ok so are mos americans. This federal govt. is sopposed to deal with foriegn issues and things that affect the country. Crime is state issue. Also there is no magic bullet for poverty. With the ecconomy everyone is hurting not just black people.
If you (or anyone for that matter) though electiing a (half) black president was going to make black people 'equal' in ths country than I am sorry it just doesn't work that way. Change takes time.

Well I'm black but not American but will be soon. I like him. I feel that he is doing his best under the circumstances. A president is supposed to represent the whole nation and not just the interests of one particular group. So if he focuses on international problems then I take that to mean that global problems affect a much larger group of americans than just catering to the poor. Also I hate that being black is equated with being poor and that somehow Obama is supposed to fix it all.
Finally, as I understand it, America's principles on equality are about equality between people not equality of income. Its a capitalist society so if a proportionate amount of blacks are disadvantaged the only thing the president needs to do is make sure that the laws of the society don't give any group advantage over others to level the playing field for all people. From that point on it should be up to the individual to elevate his or her status through hardwork or ingenuity/creativity and some combination.

Hang on a mnute please.
Are you actually suggesting that the president of the united states should offer better opportunites to the black members of the population than he does to the remainder?
I would say that you're asking him to discriminate against those that aren't black by giving more opportunities to the blacks, that in itself would be discriminatory and therefore wrong.
Everyone in the US and the UK has the same chance tomake something of themselves, all it takes is hard work and application. Admittedly, it's easier if you have money, I don't deny that. However, if someone sets themselves a realistic goal in life and then fails to achieve it, then 99% of the time they only have themselves to blame.
Obama hasn't failed the blacks. Individuals, whether black, white, red, yellow or green have failed themselves!
Opportunities are like light bulbs, they're made and not found!

Black people were not the only ones to vote for him, and are not the only ones (from my experience) who feel let down. There are many white democrats, and people who voted democrat for the first time hoping for something different, who are very disappointed in the total lack of action, let alone change, they have seen from Obama's presidency.

He does (like each and every-one else) what they tell him to, they're informed what to assert, the thank you to assert it, while to assert it, American politics. people voted for him because of the fact of his race, his mind, because of the fact Oprah reported to, because of the fact Le Bron reported to, because of the fact they even have self assurance we could have a metamorphosis?, The replace won't go into my financial company account or yours, it extremely is going to go into his. replace ought to come if we've extra democrats contained in the senate and the congress, majority regulations???? How do you comprehend they do no longer go searching, fishing, like nascar?. i will't comprehend why you sense that individuals will study extra and sense "close"to blacks, because of the fact we've a racially blended president. It does not count number who the president is, the political occasion tells him what to do, a speech author writes his speeches, someone tells them the thank you to gown,.Do you no longer think of that he became into no longer the guy the occasion needed contained in the white living house? Do you no longer think of that they are being taught appropriate white living house etiquette? he will lead the rustic the way all people who he follows did, alongside with the congress & senate, this would or would no longer be stable, I see it as a step contained in the final course, no longer because of the colour of his epidermis, yet because of the dems are contained in the senate/congress. I completely see what you assert, do you notice what i'm asserting? stable question.

I can only speak for myself when I say this - No. I never had faith in him so I can't really be let down. He did pass my expectations for what he would do though.
