Well, just so that you get the FULL spectrum of opinions. . . I would *totally* study Japanese. I think German (no offense to any Germans or German speakers) is a particularly ugly language. All those syllables and consonants - I picture a whole lot of spittle flying around the country of Germany.

And a lot of technology companies do a lot of work in and for Japan - I guess I figure the odds of your second langauge "coming in handy" are far higher if you learn Japanese.

Just my two cents. Yes, it is not an Indo-European langauge, which may make it more difficult to learn - but it's a brand new language. Neither one would be *easy*. Good luck deciding. :)

They are both worth learning. German is NOT an ugly language; only someone ignorant of the language could say that. It is also wrong to think that Japanese is harder because it is not Indo European; that's false. Japanese is no more difficult to learn than Spanish; the real problem is learning to write it. Japanese is probably the most difficult written language in the world; if you like language study, then this is not a problem - it's an interesting challenge. If this is your first foreign language, then probably German is better for you. In the end, you can't make a bad decision.

I suggest you go with German. For engineering both countries are giving more investments and focused growth. But Germans leads. Do web search for few parameters which would help you to decide on this.

I would recommend German as Germany is big in the engineering field it is also a fun challenging language to learn

Japaneese would probably give you higher learning but it's very complicated. I'd go with German.

german--you'd more likely go to germany than japan...and it's easier to speak german either way.
