Dumbo below me: Freedom from slavery was a conservative foundation. Democrats supported the KKK. Republican radicals (those that disagreed with democrats on slavery) fought with the Yankees. A lot of people fought on the confederate side merely because they were from the South. Not because they owned slaves. The majority of the South was mostly kids who had no idea what they were fighting for. Pick up a REAL history book or attend a private school. Public indoctrination has forced me to remove my kids and have them homeschooled.

Return of Bite: I find it amusing that you're so simple-minded that you think party name equals ideology. Every US historian knows the Southern Democrats were socially to the right of the Northern Republicans during that time period.

There's a reason why blacks were once Republicans and are now Democrats. If you're saying that ideology did not change, then you're saying blacks currently support the KKK, slavery, and Jim Crow. Which of course would not make sense.
