Is there an easy way to remove chome from aluminum?

I've got a set of old chrome mags on a 39 plymouth pu. The center spokes are aluminum and starting to peel. The outside steel rims are good.I want to remove the chrome from the spokes and polish the aluminum. Iv 've tried sandblasting and wire brush on a grinder. Is there an easier way?

sand blasting will be the easiest.you will have to start with a very coarse sand(black beauty etc.) and go progressively finer.somewhere between the coarse to fine process, you may find that the satin finish looks good enough without polishing, which will take more time than getting the chrome off.if you find the satin finish looks good, several coats of clear will make them shine and protect them from oxidation.unless you have alot of "free" time on your hands, new wheels may be the best bet.

Chrome plating is a chemical process that applies several very thin layers of metal to the aluminum. There is no "easy way" to remove chrome without damaging the base metal underneath. If you really want to keep your wheels, it may be better to take them to a plating shop and have them re-chromed.

Or, as the other guy said... Just replace them with new wheels.
