What are the characteristics of a good person?

It's relative to the thinker. Even the Master Jesus said, "Why call me 'good'? There is only one who is good and that is the Father Who is in Heaven."

Now, this statement can be taken in two ways: literally or figuratively. The literal one sees a Father figure up there on a cloud, in Heaven. The figurative description refers to the divine consciousness residing in each soul, and this is stated as "Behold the kingdom of God is within you." When Jesus speaks of the Father or kingdom of God being your essence then it is there that you'll find the crown of all goodness, which is divinity, or spirituality. That is the ultimate goal.

The long road leading to universality of consciousness, perfection of the individual soul in order for it to express the divine state of being, begins with understanding the self, not in pleasing the world by a show of sanctimonious goodness.

The greatest quality of a "good" person is LOVE. There is nothing finer and it is the fulfilment of all requirements essential in spiritual development.

I think it all begins with genuine humility based on the acceptance that we all begin equal and that no one is greater or lesser.

To me, that's what the Golden Rule is all about and it's probably the best way to live.

A person that is responsible and self-sufficient will tend to have all or most of the characteristics of what is generally considered "a good person".

edit: Even though there are people who are responsible that most definately are not good people. For example: A man who works very hard and pays his bills that comes home at the end of the day and abuses his family. But on the other hand...A person who is kind, loving, generous etc etc who is not responsible, is of no real use to anyone in the end.

Patient. That is a big one. Listen to people, and don't be quick to act. Think about things. Patient also goes with being patient with other people.

Some one who can be a "go to person." Be there for people, try to help them out and listen when they need to talk. People will know you as the person they can trust.

Honest. Don't lie and try to make your self seem better. No one likes a show off.

This one is kinda random but.. Don't stare at people for long periods of time. Freaks them out.

That is relative. Who decides what is good? For some, it's someone who looks sharp in their wrap around suicide bomb outfit. For others it's someone who hates all taxes and wants the nation to go to war with everybody. And for others it is someone who is selfless, giving, compassionate, conciderate, and kind. It all depends upon who is choosing the good characteristics. For me, it's Jimmy Carter, for someone else it may be Newt Gingrich. It all depends.

a genuinely kind, considerate, honourable, loyal, trustworthy, loving and fun character is what makes a good person to know.

He Lives his life without disturbing others.
