What is the road like along the coast of Nova Scotia, from?
Halifax to Cape Breton? I plan to drive along the coast, and I have so many questions about gas stations (?), restaurants (?), comfort stations (?), etc. Also, the road and terrain.
If you have any suggestions or ideas, or experiences, please let me know. Thanks.
I plan to drive south on Highway 7, to Halifax.
Thank you for your answer. "Comfort Stations" are restroom facilities, but I was actually interested in the availablility of gasoline. On the map, that road looks pretty desolate, and I questioned how "reliable" it is. Do they close it often for problems such as landslides or fog ?
Thanks again for your answer.

Well I will tell you all I can, I am from Cape Breton and have been to Halifax tons of times! So It seems your are driving from Cape Breton to Halifax? And taking highway 7?
There are a few ways to get to Halifax, but I've never taken highway 7 because there is much around there. But than again, I could be wrong, its the only place in Nova Scotia that I haven't been.
If you are driving from up North in Cape Breton, I would recommend any route: the main highway is beautiful. St. Peters ways is also beautiful but the road is really windy. And Mabou/Port Hood way is also beautiful, but takes longer and the roads are windy.
When you hit the mainland I've never driven on highway 7, I've always went through The Valley or went the main highway. But just go to Google Maps and search what you want around highway 7, and they can give you many options.
If you want a more scenic route and don't have a time limit I would go start as soon as I am off the bridge separating Cape Breton& the mainland, passing Antigonish, New Glassgow, Truro, and than turn off at Brookfield and travel all the way along that coast through the Valley. And than to get to Halifax, either take highway 14, 12 or 8. Depending on how long your trip will be.
Or you can just take the main highway.

EDITED:
Well for restrooms, I can almost guarantee you that most of the gas stations you go to will have restrooms available, you just has to ask. For gas stations along there, there is a handful on them, you will see signs telling you have far off a gas station is, in some places.
You don't have to worry about landslides or fog, but you have to watch out for deer/any other animal running across the road.
And from what I gather, the roads are reliable on highway 7.

It's a nice, scenic route. You pass through lots of small towns. Gas stations and restaurants are plentiful. Not sure what you mean by "comfort stations."
I drove this route with my family on my way to Newfoundland about 6-7 years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed it. There's nothing much to be said about the road/terrain itself other than that it goes along the coast and it can be a bit hilly at points. The road is in very good condition though...nothing to worry about there... Did you have any specific questions about the route? It's a bit hard to respond to something so general...
