What can restaurant servers do when their jobs are threatened by scam artists complaining about their service?

I work at a chain restaurant where we have online customer satisfaction surveys. Lately, scam complaints have gotten really bad. People want to get something for free, so they make up that their service was bad and that complaint gets forwarded to our managers and the corporate office. Now they are saying that if we get 3 complaints we could get fired. These people keep getting free stuff so they just send in more and more complaints and now we're all worried for our jobs. It doesn't make sense that they keep giving these people free things. Do we have any rights as employees in this situation? We're set up to lose in this situation, because no matter how great of service we give, they just lie and say we did things that aren't true. What can we do?

Update:

@MomtoMax: We did't use to get them. It started out slow and got worse at our store. Your chain probably does not give free stuff out so they move on.

File for unemployment if you get fired.

Unless your restaurant is dumb, they will investigate each complaint to hear your story of the events, and decide whether the customer is making stuff up in order to get free stuff or not.

I had a hollow complaint about me at work not long ago. I was told the general manager might talk to me about it, but he must have went through it and found it unfounded, as I did nothing wrong at all, and protected the businesses liability in at multiple ways during my interaction with that customer. I think she just was just looking to complain, but barely left any information besides saying that I was 'rude' and some other things which are actually our policy, meaning that they have no merit to her complaint. If I worked at a restaurant, it would have been the equivalent of her complaining she got carded while she was underage, and didn't have her ID with her.

Most managers will ignore these type of complaints as if the person had a really bad experience they would not wait until they got home to report it - they would report it to the manager at the restaurant. And if your manager is any good they see how you work and interact with customers and know if you are good or not

Also most companies know about serial complainers and people trying to get free things. My old company would not give anything free to a person who complained more than 2 times. If they complained once or twice they might get a voucher for a small amount but the third time we would cut them off and tell them that we were sorry they had a bad experience and that their comments would be passed on to management, but they were not given any more refunds or vouchers.

I work in a chain restaurant with the same online survey. I have yet to get a complaint.
