My 14 month old bites...?

My son recently started biting. I know he's not doing it to be mean. I think he's just curious. In any case, the behavior is wrong and can lead to bigger problems. How did you get your child to stop biting?

Someone told me to flick him in the cheek whenever he did it, but I don't particularly agree with that kind of punishment. Time outs obviously don't work at this age, because he's too young to understand. I've tried saying 'no' or 'uh uh, don't bite!' But it doesn't seem to be working (been doing it for upwards of a month).

Any other suggestions?

Try giving him stuff like teething rings, rubbery toys, etc to bite on

In my opinion, if I was bit by a young child, I would lightly bite them back. Not too hard just enough to prove that it is wrong and very painful.

    Hope that helps

personally i would give him a pop on the diaper. not abuse or a full on "big kid" spanking but enough to let him know you're serious. never harm a child in the face. that's silly. my sisters 18 month old daughter used to bite all the time. we started giving her "spankings" and she stopped. we would pop her on the butt & tell her that biting isn't nice & that she would get another pop if she bit again. it took about 2 weeks for her to get it but she finally stopped. people can thumbs down my comment all they want. we were not abusing her or honestly causing her any pain. just using firm discipline.
