What exactly do people think a "Christian" is?

A Christian is someone who lives their life they way Jesus would, reads their Bible and acknowledges and confesses that Jesus is Lord :)

WOW! What an observation and it's so true unfortunately. A person should try and live the Holy life if he professes to be a follower of Jesus. Philippians 2:5 " Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus." It's exactly for that reason that some people are turned off by Christians trying to witness to them. It's a heart breaker, that someone is not going to heaven because of someones Hypocritical behavior. Thanks for bringing this problem up for all to see, good question.

According to the dictionary, it's a person who believes the jesus described in the bible was "the savior" (messiah).

You appear to have a different definition, one that not everyone agrees with. If being a "christian" requires living a life that does everything the jesus in the bible said to do, then there are no "christians."

A Christian is one who keeps all of God's commandments and imitates Jesus in his life. The only ones I know doing this are Jehovah's witnesses. You may know some others.

You are judging and this you have to be careful about doing...A Christian means to be Christ-like and that means to have characteristics like Christ in which we strive to be like daily as Christians...We fall down sometimes but we get back up and thank God that he allows us to err and still gives us grace and mercy....A person who really knows Christ would not make such a statemnet as this because they would know that we are all just a work in progress...How are you progressing?>:)

In general, a true Christian lives their live accordingly to the bible and tries to imitate Jesus and follow in his footsteps for example, trying to be a humble person.
