What will it take to end the NFL owners' lockout of the players?

I am damned sick and tired of this lockout. If the owners and players were smart(and obviously they're not),the collective bargaining agreement would have been taken care of in March.Too much greed, too much wanting to save face, and just plain laziness are the reason why the CBA hasn't been ratified by now. Does anybody have an opinion or a solution to end this travesty?

According to both the NFL owners and the NFLPA, the 2 sides have been in negotiations for a new CBA ever since 2006 when an extension with revisions of the 1994 CBA was agreed to. Maybe so. But as with most labor disputes nothing really gets done until one side or the other, or both, start to lose money. The NFL labor dispute is at that point now.

From reports you read, a new agreement is close to being done. Unfortunately, a retired players group has thrown a kink into the process by filing a lawsuit against the owners and the NFLPA. A hearing for the lawsuit isn't scheduled until August 8th. The group, led by Carl Eller, claim they have been excluded from negotiations and the mediation sessions that have been going on.

The retired players biggest beef seems to be the way long term disability cases are being denied for guys who suffered concussions and other head injuries. Those sorts of disabilities can take a long time to develop and the retired guys want a better system to insure they'll be taken care of as they age.

Technically, the retired guys are part of the NFLPA and the owners are saying the retirees beef is an NFLPA issue. But the lawsuit has forced the NFLPA to halt final negotiations until they get a handle on the impact it will have on issues already agreed to.

And if the NFLPA and the owners have to wait until the August 8th hearing and then wait for a legal decision, training camps, the HOF game, preseason, and some regular season games are at risk. The HOF game is scheduled for August 7th.

However, NFL analysts seem to be confident that the retired players benefit package, and especially the long term disability benefit, can be worked out without too much delay. It wouldn't be that much money in the big scheme of things. Of course, the owners and the NFLPA will have to agree, and the retired guys will have to drop the impending lawsuit for it to happen.

the only way it is going to end this weekend is that if the gamers completely fall down. and because they're extremely annoyed on the 2d, it won't take place. i think of that they are going to positioned up a counter thought next week, and intentionally not re-certify the union for a week , to make certain if the owners violate federal exertions regulations. My wager is the owners will panic, and cave to the gamers.

It sounds like a deal is being done, which will mean the Hall of Fame game will be played. The dollar amounts are staggering, but no matter how peo sports is marketed.....it is as much a part of the entertainment industry as movies, concerts, etc. But - in the end - both sides will win and the fans will lose.

There is no union anymore so a CBA can't be drafted just like that anymore! It now has to play through the courts!

All they have to do is give the players what they want.
