This tells to all human beings to make self-introspection. Know thy self.

Well, Imagine the Indian opening duo returning back to the pavillion and the entire top order collapsing.

Now, what to this is the task of the middle order batsmen? -To keep the senses open and earn runs. Again, do you think that the moto of the on-crease batsmen is unexamined? -No way. If they would have not examined the purpose in the game(I prefer to call it Life), then they would have followed the same trend as the former ones cnd brought in a Worthless Zero!

Can only speak for myself but it involves stepping back and seeing things as they are. It also involves attaching as much meaning and analysing to phenomena as possible. It involves not just the me me me - your life, your feelings etc which are all subjective, time specific and biased. It involves an interest in the macro picture. Where humanity has come from (history) where it is going to... the bigger questions too. People interest me - life intruigues me - I never ever get bored. (Only boring people get bored!) People do not live enough in their thoughts/minds.. it is there that deliberate thought can help wisdom shine through. Thinking sociologially would be another great start. Buy Anthony Giddens - read - take it in. For me Socrates was talking about how people who see things only in the 2 dimensional way are in many ways just sheep or as sociologists call it 'happy little robots' - to question, to read, to think, to experience, to muse, to debate, to take this life malarkey and all the good/bad in the same hand - that is truly to live. My own favourite Socrates quotes are these - A man once said to him that he would die if he did not get even with him to which Socrates replied 'and I shall die if I do not make friends with you!' When his friends expressed remorse at his death sentence he told them not to get upset 'If it were not now it would be another time.' he replied. Socrates once said that a fact can only be ascertained when there are no exceptions to the rule - I like that - it means he would never make sweeping generalisations but instead would examine his theory and find exceptions to statements such as 'soldiers are brave'.. Great philosopher to study and be inspired by and refreshing to have such a considered question on here given the usual vacuuous ones. Good luck.

Its telling us that we should carefully analyze our actions. The examination of life is the evaluation of events past and present. By examining our lives, we learn from our mistakes. Although a person who does not examine his life should still continue in existence, examining his actions will make his life much more fulfilling. Without the thorough examination of life, it is almost worthless. If a person does not examine his life, he may keep making the same mistakes and never change. He would go on in sin and error, not realizing or caring about his mistakes. This would be a tragic mistake, but avoidable if he simply examined his heart and actions for fault, which he would surely find, and pray that he would be able to correct them. Even the best people make mistakes, and the truly great ones recognize and fix them

The best gift in life anyone can give thyself is the desire to learn things. Life is a journey and its important to keep learning things. If you are learning that means you are experimenting your ability and potential in a way and also by time to time you are improving your self internally. If you can't improve and have no desire to do anything then its really of no worth to live a life.

Basically being able to examine our life and what influences the way we live makes us human. It distinguishes us from animals which are influenced by the arbitrary and accidental forces of nature to act, they don't have the capacity to make decisions.

My argument does assume that you think being human is important of course. I think Abbhi's argument is a good argument for humanity.

That is not an exact scientific statement as we can still have a worthwhile life without having to resort to analysing it to bits again and again.
