Metaphorical question about the Federal budget?

metaphors ok?

lets say you decide that you are going to set a budget for something - for the sake of arguement - lets set your weekly budget for gasoline.

you set the budget, but you don't actually get the gas - it's purchased for you.

lets set that at $100.00. maybe some weeks you won't use it all - maybe some weeks you use more - but you decide this is a reasonable amount to budget.

but after giving out your first $100.00, (on day two) you are told that we are out of gas and we need more money for gas or you won't be able to go to work or do anything.

you need to get to work and never know when you may need to drive to the hospital - so you put out another $100.00.

on day three, you are told again that we are out of gas and we need more money/gas to get to work, etc.

on day four, when you are once again told that we are out of gas, and need more in order to do the basics you decide to look into this and find that the gas is being purchased at a price of $100.00 a gallon and that even though that much is being spent, even the basics aren't being met.

what do you do?

i'm serious here - this is a perfect metaphor for what has happened to our budget - except the last part where the person found out that the money was more than enough, if only it was spent wisely.

so again, long winded question - but what to you do?

Update:

bonami, i won't be rude to you, but you couldn't be more offbase in your response.

i have over 32,000 points - all of which is an open book to any who want to look at it.

i think you will find my stance on literally all issues to be distinctly liberal, well informed and anything but fox newspeak - but i challenge you to view just a few of my responses to see for yourself. i'm not one of those phonies who hides his questions and answers - it's all there for you to agree with or disagree with.

but i think that our federal budget needs an AUDIT.

no one on either side is asking for or calling for this basic first step.

we currently spend between $400 and $1000 a gallon for gas in afganistan. this is an OUTRAGE that literally no one cares about.

i'll be willing to bet that there are many many many other places in our budget where similar preposterous overpayments are taking place.

we need to find this out and get those out of govt - all of them - who are ok with this level of wasteful

Update 2:

i'm going to edit again because i want to challenge your notion that a business is going to be successful at borrowing money to pay over 100 times as much for gas as anyone else. no business would be able to do this and no bank would loan them the money.

by the way, i'm not opposed to raising the debt ceiling - but look at what is about to happen to our essential services to our seniors and needy because WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WE SPEND OUR MONEY ON!

I don't think even you know what you wrote????

This is what you get when you listen to FOX news and listen to right wing pols. It's the wrong metaphor. Most businesses borrow money as does the government. If business couldn't borrow money they couldn't exist. I am serious, you are truly ignorant.
