You Either Need A New Thermostat... Or The Setting Is On "COOL" & The Fan Setting Is "ON".Instead Of Auto..(not letting it shut off automatically)...Your Thermostat Setting Might Be Too Low (not ever reaching the cold temperature)...Or Its Just That Hot In Your Home.

If it is blowing cold air and the room is very cold then the thermostat may be broken, but it could also be the contacts of the compressor relay have frozen / welded shut. The damaged / broken parts would require replacing.
If the outside temperature is excessively hot it could be that the unit is working to it's maximum. Not a lot you can do in this case.
The outside fins of the condenser could be blocked with dust / debris and require cleaning.
The unit may have a refrigerant leak in which case the leak has to be found, repaired and the unit topped up with refrigerant or the whole charge to be replaced.
The thermostat may be set too low, - adjust the thermostat.

check the filter, rinse the outdoor coil with water and with the main power off. Otherwise it could be a few other things. Most common would be a low refrigerant charge. If the larger copper refrigerant line doesn't feel cold underneath its insulation, if it has any there - than its likely low on charge. If it feels warmer than 60F roughly than something isn't right. There is an exact way to check the charge but that will give you an idea if the coil is being starved of refrigerant.

Adds are you need freon. if you can check the temp of the air coming out of the vents, should be around 30 degrees cooler than the air inside your home if not you need a service call cost about 80 dollars or so to tune up your system........

Thermostat set too low,
Humidity very high,
Thermostat sticking or gone bad
Not enough freon to properly cool

u didnt mentioned is it working / cooling?
if yes, thermostat is not working
if not, there is some leakage and its out of cooling gas.
if its not cooling and u keep on running it, it will damage the compressor
