Why did the Yankees give Ivan Nova's roster spot to Sergio Mitre?
We've seen Mitre, he's OK, but Nova, while still developing, is better and has done well in long relief before. Why would the Yankees pick up Mitre knowing it meant they would have to send Nova down to give him the roster spot.
Chris, I'm not questioning why they sent Nova down instead of Mitre, I understand how the options work. I'm questioning why they signed Mitre, knowing they would have to keep him on their major league roster and have to send Nova down to do it.

I don't know and they knew what they were getting when they resigned him. I am a Yankee fan and I usually have faith in the ones that are struggling BUT he is one of the current Yankees that I can not stand. I wish they would of left him in limbo when he was released buy the Brewers. Hello they released him for a reason.

Ok so Mitre gets ONE good start. Just 1. And it was against the tigers. And they give him a spot in the rotation? Thats some weak call right there. Giraidi trust the bad players too much. Sure Mitre has decent expierience but that doesn't make him good. I don't understand this move at all. Nova didn't do that good but he developed well pitching more then 6 innings. And Mitre is NOT ok. 2nd time in a row he gave up 2 runs which made us lose. I think even Noesi will do better then Mitre

Use your head Joe...Nova is down for a few weeks max. Hughes is getting starts, Nova must pitch every 5 days in AAA...Mitre is long relief. Mitre doesn't have minor league options.
