Honestly if you have windows operating system you might as well get Microsoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security_essentials... it's good antivirus and it's also free.

"Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home or small business PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a free* download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and is automatically updated to protect your PC with the latest technology.

Microsoft Security Essentials runs quietly and efficiently in the background so that you are free to use your Windows-based PC the way you want—without interruptions or long computer wait times."

    Anti-viruses -

Both of these top two scanners have similar (Great) detection rates and are “neck and neck” as the best Free anti-virus if you ask me.

    Avast – FREE - ( http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download ) OR

    Avira – FREE - ( http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus )

AV Comparative Report for 2010( http://www.av-comparatives.org/en/comparativesrevi... AND according to the newest, May 2011 reviews, Avira and Kaspersky take top honors.

As far as Microsoft Security Essentials is concerned ... http://preview.tinyurl.com/3ednu7g amd http://preview.tinyurl.com/62prw64 are two links from resources, I have trusted (Langa, for years) that prove MSE have issues with viruses and Malware infections, that some other

MSE does do better than AVG from what I have seen personally and read on reviews ,.. .AVG tends always be rated the worst of the free AV's

the precise 3 unfastened AV courses are Avast, Avira, and AVG (based upon the end results of diverse autonomous testing labs). i latterly reviewed the rankings of various autonomous testing labs and found that Kaspersky and BitDefender are the two precise paid AV courses with those 2 swapping decrease backward and forward interior the precise 2 slots at different testing labs. it fairly is to no longer say that they've been notably greater appropriate than some others, like Norton's. many times, the precise names are all interior 2 or 3 proportion factors interior the testing consequences.

  • You COULD get AVG but it's not the best out there. Go for Microsoft Security Essentials.
