What are the best dig sites to visit near mount rushmore in South Dakota?

We are road tripping to Rushmore soon with our 3 boys and would like to visit a dinosaur or other paleontological site (and other interesting geological features)

The only site I know of that's open to the public is the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs: http://www.mammothsite.com/ They also offer a junior paleontologist program that you're boys would enjoy.

There are also several museums that are great to visit. The South Dakota School of Mines has a free Museum of Geology that has several full skeletons as well as a large selection of rocks and gems. Their website is: http://museum.sdsmt.edu/

The Black Hills Institute of Geologic Study is in Hill City. They also have some complete skeletons and depending on when you are there, you can occasionally see paleontologists working on fossils. Their website is: http://www.bhigr.com/

    Have a great trip! :)

i've got by no ability visited yet i think of it could be awsome to pass to a minimum of something like that through fact heavily its like stone with faces carved in it. i ask your self how they desperate to call it that or maybe choose for the faces that went on it.Hm...a good question to ask the president or some old guy or woman that became there while it occurred.
