If you allow updates from Yahoo Answers - yes, they will show up wherever Yahoo updates show. Like your messenger status, your Pulse page - or even in the email area of those who are connected to you on your Yahoo email.
If you don't want that, go to your Pulse page and turn them off:
http://pulse.yahoo.com/ > Settings (top right) > Manage Updates
