Is it possible for a pitcher to get credit for a "Hold" and a "Loss" in the same game?

Yes and No are good answers but won't get you "Best Answer".

Update:

The answer is "Yes' and Best Answer will go to the first person that can tell me how it can happen.

Update 2:

By the way, this has happened 3 or 4 times this baseball season alone.

Update 3:

"We Will Manage": You are mostly correct. Marshall entered the game in the 8th inning and retired two batters but also gave up a hit and a walk. Marmol came in to replace him at that time and gave up the hits that scored both runners that Marshall put on base. Since no runners scored when Marshall was pitching, and he left the game with a one run lead, he gets credit for the "Hold". However, since the two runners that he put on base scored he was responsible for those runs that gave the other team the lead and ultimately the win. Therefore, Marshall got the "loss" in the game but also a "Hold". That is what you get when different rules apply to different areas of the game. Not a big deal but certainly an oddity.

YES IT IS this happened on my fantasy team last night, Sean Marshall of the Cubs finished an inning and got the hold, but the next inning he gave up 2 runs and got the loss

Seeing as holds aren't really a real stat, I don't know but according to fantasy baseball you can get a hold and a loss in the same night

The "hold" is not an official stat so it is listed as a footnote at the end of MLB Rule 10:20

which covers the "Save".It basically says that the hold was adopted to give credit to a middle

reliever who did a good job but was ineligible for a win or save. You cannot a hold and a win

or a hold and a loss or even a hold and a save. But you get a "blown hold" if you give up the

    tying or lead run.

No it's not possible. A hold is when a middle reliever holds onto the lead. If he gives up the lead then he is not credited for a hold. Therefore you can't get a hold and loss in the same game.

No. If you allow the other team to even tie you didn't preserve the win so therefor don't get credit for the hold.

No, to get a "hold" you have to hold the lead through the rest of the game, if you loose, the you get the "loss."

no longer likely. Too many distinctive critiques. There ought to be ultimate pitchers (plural), yet no ultimate one pitcher. you will desire some adult men say Tim Lincecum, others could say Roy Halladay, others nonetheless ought to declare Ubal Jimenez, or perhaps others ought to declare Josh Johnson, etc.
