Christians, how do you know whether something is from the Holy Spirit or from your own ego?

i cant explain it, you just know, it is a still small voice and it is from the heart

This is a question I have been asking myself for some time and have not come to an answer yet. I do not follow the trinity so a holy spirit coming to help me read the bible is confusing. It especially gets confusing when people claim that only special people will be able to do this citing a quote from John's gospel. I personally cannot see God doing this. God is for everyone.

I pray to God and ask God to help me. God said and Jesus taught " Ask and it will be given, Seek and you will find, Knock and the door will be opened." People keep on telling me that God was wrong when he said this and Jesus was so far off the track with his teachings that a man named Paul had to come along and straighten out the disciples.

I prefer to believe what God has said and Jesus taught. Christians teach the ego of Paul. "I boast"

Great question! Most usually don't. It takes many years to come to a place of spiritual maturity to stop hiding the ego behind religion. Until people of faith do that, they won't be able to distinguish between them. Two keys to starting: 1. Detach from using Christianity as an identity source. The ego is worried about identity and this causes us to not see ourselves as separate from our faith. It also leads to wrapping religion and ego up with each other. 2. Realize the Bible is speaking to the ego when it talks of the "sinful nature." The scripture actually does concern itself with the ego very much but most Christians don't realize this; they get hung up on behavioral sins and morality over and against the bigger obstacles to spiritual growth.

Everyone is different, we each have a way of knowing...I usually have goosebumps or a sense of champagne sparkling and popping all over..yeah, I know it sounds funny even crazy, but you did ask :)) sometimes it's a quiet but sure knowing inside. .

The Holy Spirit manifests in many ways, we each find our own way of understanding. . .

Jesus said ''My sheep hear My voice and another they will not follow''

Some people have to learn to hear His voice, other just know straight off...I'm blessed, I know His voice before I was saved, the Holy Spirit had been calling me into a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ.

It has to be experienced...we can only tell you how it is with us :)

Discernment is also a gift that is given to us.

Promptings from the Spirit will bring a sense of peace, even though the "message" may be uncomfortable in what it requires ie; you sense you should do something you'd rather not

One translation of Col. 3:15 is "The peace that Christ gives is to guide you in the decisions you make".

Take time to discern; the more time you spend now, learning to know which "voice" to trust, the quicker and easier, it'll become to discern in future.

It seems to me You do not believe in God or Jesus. so i would say you are either an atheists or believe in santisim. Keep in mind you do not no what your talking about I can gaurenteed that you are uneducated to asked these question so there is no need to answer even no i have plenty. So until you actually pickup the New testsment Bible or even the Old Testsment then when you finished reading asked me again and we will talk GOD.

It's simple. I think and reflect on the Scripture when it's coming from the Holy Spirit. My mind is not given to spin or overdramatization on that, as it might be from the local football team winning the playoffs.

If it lines up with what I want, it's probably from my own ego.

If it goes against what I want but would be beneficial to someone or someones else, it's probably from the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said, my sheep know my voice. that is it. If you truly belong to Jesus, you know his voice. I know his voice and it has not one thing to do with any ego. I have never been much for ego. no sense in it.

but I do know when the Spirit speaks to me. He speaks in different ways. sometimes he speaks in my ear, a still small voice, which is in the spirit, not in my own head.

I also learned by experience not to disobey this voice. It bring horrible consequences to disobey, for God is telling me something for my own good.

I also know what he speaks to me telling me something of deep interpretation in Scripture. He has told me many things which I had never heard in my life. Some of so different, it scared me at first. But He always proves it with Scripture.

So I KNOW when he speaks to me. Now others may not know or can tell. some people only have a head belief, so never truly receive God's spirit and therefore cannot tell, or do not know that he truly does speak to us.

One needs the Holy Ghost to become able to know his voice. One thing for sure, He will not ever cross his own word to anyone. when people claim God told them things which do not match Scripture, they are wrong.

His speaking to me is not always revealing Scripture. I have actually had God tell me who was ringing my phone before I answered. I had no idea a certain person would ever call me, They were up to evil, and God told me who it was and to be careful what I say.

This is the honest truth. many such things He says to me. so no one in this entire world could ever convince me that my God is not real and cannot talk to me. He already has. so too late to say , no.

like when your reading the bible and devoting and when you know your feeling its from god then thats the holy spirit

There is no holy spirit giving people magical reading glasses in order to understand what the bible is saying. It means what it says and the stupidities in the bible are literal.
