Have you ever found out what others have given you for a nickname for years afterwards?

The lads in the control room (when I was working of course), used to call me 'Captain' for some reason. Now years later I've discovered it was in relation to Captain Mainwairing of the old TV comedy 'Dad's Army'!

Thinking about it, being as he was uneducated, clumsy, short, bald, and failed in everything despite his good intentions and loyalty - that's me all over!

I'd be interested to know the details. Thanks.

Yes a few at work "Nurse Cratchet" or "Old Iron Britches" came up a few times. They got their work done on my shift, that's all I know.

Last year I met up with an old friend I hadn't seen in years. I was very excited to see her and we spent several hours reminiscing. She told me what my nick-name was behind my back and we had a good laugh. It was so offensive that I will never contact her again. Some things are better left unknown.

Yes and it wasn't behind my back. I was awfully skinny right up to my 40's and in the early 60's was called Boney Maroney after a hit record.

I've been called "Tommy" my whole life. Doesn't bother me even though I am sneaking up on 60. I guess I just looked like a "Tommy".( or maybe acted younger)Friends ,teachers, and co-workers younger than me called me that.

I am still amused when someone calls me sir. Feels like I am not in that category yet.
