installing wireless adapter on XP pro?

I'm trying to install a Wireless Adapter on a desktop with a fresh reinstall of Windows XP Pro, I have a driver CD but I can NOT get XP to run/install the drivers. Its as if XP can NOT see the driver files. When I view the files on a different PC they look normal but when I view them with the desktop with XP they are listed as a generic files/icon that windows does not have the program to open or run. What progam am I missing? How can I get XP to "see" the drivers?

I would try downloading the latest drivers from the wireless adapter manufacturer's site and try to install those instead.

You can also run a command in Windows to check for corrupted system files. To do this, open a command window (Start > Run > cmd <enter>). At the command prompt, type: sfc /scannow and then hit enter.

Windows may prompt you for your XP Pro disk if it finds corrupted files. After it replaces the corrupt files, restart your computer and see if Windows now properly recognizes the files.
