Xbox 360 Slim or Xbox 360 Elite?

My birthday is coming up in September and I really want an Xbox 360. But I can't decide which one to get: the Slim or Elite. I'm new to Xbox and I've never owned one. Please help me and suggest the one that's the best. Please list the features of both Xboxes. Thank you!

Update:

Can you also compare the two systems. Pros and cons. Differences and similarities. Thank you!

As the first answerer says, the Slim. The Elite is an OLD xbox 360. You cannot buy them new, unless the store has some old stock, so you'd have to get one second-hand. Please forget the Elite. I don't know why people still talk about it as if it's current!

The slim is the standard 360 now and has been for some time. It does not suffer from the hardware problems of the old ones because it has newer, more efficient cpu/gpu, it's more power efficient and the cooling is better. And if it does get too hot, it shuts down rather than breaking (although mine has never even done that). It also has a special socket for Kinect that mean the Kinect doesn't need a separate power supply. On older 360s, Kinect uses USB and must be powered separately. It also has built in Wifi unlike the older 360s.

You can get the slim with or without hard drive, but for the love of God get the hard drive version. It doesn't cost that much and makes such a difference. If you want to download any amount of DLC, demos etc or install your games, you must have a hard drive. I don't know how people do without them.

Get the Slim. It's has all the features the Elite has and more.

The Elite, albeit cheaper, is hard to find and really "out of date." The new Xbox 360 Slim model has built-in Wifi which allows for easy wireless connections, whereas the Elite needs an additional appliance to be able to connect wirelessly to the internet. The Slim is also quieter and supposedly eliminates the horrendous "red-ring of death" error (99.99%).

"Get an elite. my new narrow have been given the RDOD in under 2 days, and theres already hundreds of ppl reporting there narrow have been given it as nicely, seek google." Elites nonetheless get RRoD as nicely...This "city" guy is spamming the Xbox talk board with hate on the hot narrow. Microsoft will restoration your narrow or elite if it gets hardware issues and you nonetheless have a guaranty. Mine as nicely get the narrow because it has WiFi equipped in and the not easychronic is interior as nicely.
