Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux Dual Boot?

Ok, so two days ago I settled on the Acer Aspire as7750g-6444. It comes with windows 7. But I read on forums that a lot of people have Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux. Are there any advantages in doing so, or should I just stay with one OS in Microsoft Windows 7?

Overall a Linux based platform can perform most of the tasks equally as well as a proprietary platform using the likes of Ubuntu and its derivative distros. However Linux does have its limitations with some applications and in particular gaming. For example I retain a dedicated Windows partition to run specific applications such as Office 2010 etc.

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 11 which is built upon Ubuntu 11.04 but more stable. Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 11 then you need to create a Bootable LiveDVD for installation

Linux Mint 11 can also be run straight from the LiveDVD from Boot without touching your Hard Drive

I suggest you to PLEASE stay with one OS.

Installing two OS like windows 7 and linux will create a boot problem for you.

I have already tried it so that is my experience. However i am a software enggineer so i managed to save my back up files and uninstall both OS without loosing any back up.

So i suggest you please install only one OS.

If you install two OS at a time it will boot only the last OS which you recently installed. The previous OS Windows 7 will not load. Only Linux will boot.

@Altamash: Sir I may not have a qualification like you do but you see, I have used UBUNTU 9.10 WITH WIN 7 ULTIMATE 32-BIT

Well I copied wubildr and wubildr.mbr files after to c:\ partition or win-7 boot partition and it worked fine...

Well I suggest you not to download 11.04 [latest ver] coz it will give head-aches...trust me

After placing the disc select install in windows option and follow instructions

If you are going to use Linux, then yes. Other wise no.
