I mistakenly didn't reply to an email?

I was in the process of setting up an informal meeting to learn more about one of the volunteer positions at my college campus. The meeting was between me and one of the current volunteers. In our last email, he had asked what time I wanted to meet (we had already selected a date). However, a series of events led me to accidentally not reply to this email. I typed my response, but I didn't hit send, then I went on vacation a few days later, then there was a small crisis at our school and we had to shut down for a few days. Today I started wondering why we still hadn't met yet and that's when I noticed I forgot to send my response.

The end result is that it's been over three weeks since he asked what time I want to meet up. I don't know what to do now. I know it's my fault (I should have checked my reply earlier), but I don't know how to best apologize to him and possibly set up a second meeting.

Any tips?

Just explain the drama in your life in a very professional and apologetic manner. I was in a similar situation! I was looking for a research opportunity at my college... I interviewed for the position and didn't hear from them for a couple days. I then got food poisoning and didn't check my mail for like a week. I finally did check it and they had emailed me to come in for training that I missed! I was mortified and upset. But I called and explained I was very sick and really sorry and if the position was still available, I could come in a soon as possible, granted my classes allow me, schedule wise. She just rescheduled and it wasn't as big a deal I thought it would be! Good luck : )

Just send an email apologizing and tell them what happened. Ask them if the position is still available and let them know you are still interested if it is.

    Just say something like:

    Good Morning Martin,

I am writing in response to our last communication. I am still interested in the volunteer position we previously spoke about if it is still available. Unfortunately I thought I had responded to you before I went on my 2 week vacation just prior to" the crisis" and just found my reply in my drafts folder this morning.

If the position is still available I would be willing to come meet with you at your convenience. Either way I would like to thank you for your time.

    Regards,

    Your name
