Is the Advance AutoParts guy confused about my battery installation?
I have a 2001 Honda Accord EX. About two weeks ago, the battery died and I got AAA to give me a jump. The AAA guy said I probably need a new battery. So I go to Advance Auto Parts today. The Advance guy does a test first and finds my battery is fine, but needs to be charged. I decide to just get a new battery since I'm not sure how old this one is (I'm the second owner). After hooking something up to the inside of my car for 5 minutes, then disappearing inside for another 10, then Advance guy comes out and tells me he can't change the battery because there's an alarm on my car and disconnecting the battery will erase all the codes. He says that if he did replace the battery, the car won't turn on and nothing will work. He told me to go to my dealership for a new battery.
I had my battery die two weeks prior and did have to punch in my radio code once it was jumped, but the car still turned on. Is there a second code I should be aware of? Or was the Advance guy just very confused?
I really don't want to go to the dealership, so if there are multiple codes, I'd like to find out how to find them. Like I said, I have my radio code.
3 AnswersHonda7 years agoWhat is another way to say "present research"?
I'm writing a statement of purpose and keep using the same phrases. I want another way to say "present research" (as in, I presented my research at a conference). I am also looking for another way to say "worked with a team." Suggestions?
1 AnswerLanguages8 years agoNeed some verbs related to dance?
I am trying to come up with an acronym for DANCE, based on verbs. So far, I just have C (clap or chassé) and E (extend). Any suggestions for D, A and/or N?
1 AnswerDancing9 years agoHow do I politely remind someone that I applied for a job?
I sent my resume and cover letter for a part-time job on campus. They replied saying that they were still early in the application process, but I would hear from them in a few weeks. It's been exactly 4 weeks and I haven't heard anything. I'm nervous that they forgot about my application since I applied relatively early for the position (I really want it though). Plus, I move back to campus in 6 days which means my free time for an interview will soon be limited by my other responsibilities.
What is a polite way to remind the employer that I applied for this job and find out if I have a follow-up interview?
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment9 years agoNeed help with question on job application?
I have a question for a job application that I'm having a tough time answering.
The question is: "What can you contribute to a team that makes you stand out from others?"
The thing is, my unique contribution varies based on the team that I'm working with. Being a good listener can make me stand out for one team, but be very commonplace in different group. Any ideas?
3 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment9 years agoCollege and depression?
Short story: my depression worsened this semester, resulting in me doing poorly in a class. I want to ask my professor for an incomplete or an extension or something, but I'm not sure what exactly to say.
Long story: I was diagnosed with depression last year. I used the free counseling at my college and it really helped. I figured I didn't need any counseling this year (plus we have a limited number of sessions available per year). This semester started off fine, but my depression came back, worse than before. By time I realized that I really needed help, my grades had suffered. In particular, my grade in one class severely dropped since most of the coursework was due during the time of my depression. I am getting back on track, but I don't know what to say to this professor about why my work ethic dramatically decreased and find out if there is anything I can do to save my grade.

Title says it all. Will they be okay? Or should I throw them out?
3 AnswersCooking & Recipes10 years agoMy roommate cooks strong smelling food?
My roommate frequently cooks food that leaves a strong odor in our apartment that I'm not a fan of. I've tried opening windows, spraying air freshener and turning on a fan after she cooks which kind of helps. But sometimes, I don't back to the apartment until hours after she has cooked and the smell has permeated our entire apartment. I don't want to tell her to stop cooking, but I also don't like the way our apartment smells sometimes.
Any suggestions?
4 AnswersHigher Education (University +)10 years agoHow can I solve this set of nonlinear equations using MATLAB?
The equations are:
4xy + 4y^2 - 3cos(y) = -2
5x^2 - 2xy^2 - 5sin(x) = -5
However, I also have the following constraints:
-10 < x < 10
-10 < y < 10
I know I could use the solve function, but I'm confused about how to incorporate the constraints as well.
Thank you!

I know I could sign it "Sincerely". But I'm looking for other suggestions as well.
2 AnswersEtiquette10 years agoWhat are your favorite pick-me-up songs?
Like Jill Scott's Golden. A song that has a positive "I'm happy with my life" message.
1 AnswerPolls & Surveys10 years agoWhat are your favorite gospel songs?
Or gospel artists? I'm looking to update my gospel music collection (haven't added a song since like 2008), so newer songs/artists would be much appreciated!
3 AnswersOther - Music10 years agoI mistakenly didn't reply to an email?
I was in the process of setting up an informal meeting to learn more about one of the volunteer positions at my college campus. The meeting was between me and one of the current volunteers. In our last email, he had asked what time I wanted to meet (we had already selected a date). However, a series of events led me to accidentally not reply to this email. I typed my response, but I didn't hit send, then I went on vacation a few days later, then there was a small crisis at our school and we had to shut down for a few days. Today I started wondering why we still hadn't met yet and that's when I noticed I forgot to send my response.
The end result is that it's been over three weeks since he asked what time I want to meet up. I don't know what to do now. I know it's my fault (I should have checked my reply earlier), but I don't know how to best apologize to him and possibly set up a second meeting.
Any tips?

1 AnswerLaw & Ethics1 decade agoPolite way to ask for a reference?
I'm applying for a volunteer position on campus and I need to give the contact information two faculty/staff members that are willing to be character references for me. I have two people that have been my references in the past, but I always asked in person. I'm not sure what to say in an email that doesn't seem rude. So far, I have:
Dear So and so,
I hope your summer is going well. I'm applying for [the organization]. [description of the organization and link to webpage]. Part of the application requires the contact information of a staff/faculty member who can be a reference for me. I was wondering if you would be willing to be to do for me.
Thanks,
My name
Should I add anything else?

1 AnswerLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agoHow to find graduate school visits?
There are a number of graduate schools I am interested in and I was wondering how I can find out if they have graduate visit days. I tried searching for "[name of school] graduate visit day", but didn't get the results I wanted. Are there specific key words I should use? Or someone I should email?
