How do I politely remind someone that I applied for a job?
I sent my resume and cover letter for a part-time job on campus. They replied saying that they were still early in the application process, but I would hear from them in a few weeks. It's been exactly 4 weeks and I haven't heard anything. I'm nervous that they forgot about my application since I applied relatively early for the position (I really want it though). Plus, I move back to campus in 6 days which means my free time for an interview will soon be limited by my other responsibilities.
What is a polite way to remind the employer that I applied for this job and find out if I have a follow-up interview?
I think it's rude to show up at someone's office without an appointment or any forewarning, then demand to see them. What if they are busy when I show up unexpectedly? Then I have to sit there and wait for them, wasting my time (and gas). Plus, I put unnecessary pressure on them to finish what they are working on to answer a 2 minute question. I don't want my potential future employer to think that I am high maintenance or inconsiderate of their time.

The best way is to go to the place of business and tell them you are there to check on your job application. Smile big and be very polite. Just explain that you're very interested in the job and you want to make sure your application hasn't expired. You can also call, but going in is much better.
