Have you ever accidentally walked out of a store without paying for something, then returned to pay for it?

Now your older, would you do the same thing again?

Yes I have. A paperback book was under my purse in the shopping cart. The cashier put the bags of stuff in the cart and I went to the car and unloaded it. When I lifted my purse there was the book. I went inside & paid for it and would do it again. Happens quite frequently at the store I work at, and amazes me the people who come back and pay.

It's called shoplifting Gerry, but these days you no longer get transported to Oz.

So your devilish plan to get a free trip to Australia for the price of a tin of sardines won't work.

I did it the week before last at Aldi (they usually just have a glance in the trolley to make sure you haven't left anything in this day they didn't) I held up the packet of ham half way through the sale (it was under my bag) I don't know who was more embarrassed the assistant or me.

And our Lass went into one of the Town Centre shops about 18 Months ago on my behalf and had the puzzled assistant scan an item pay for it on my behalf and then put it back on display, it was only when I had got Home I realised what I had done.

Ex shop keeper, my conscience pricks.

Yes i have! Except it was a gas station, not a store. I filled my tank up with gas and because i was in a hurry to get to work. I left and when I got to work, I realized I had not payed for my gas. I was scared all day that they would come after me, because I left without paying.

After work I went back and payed for the gas and apologized . The man was very understanding and said he knew I would come back and pay for it. And yes if it happened again, I would still go back and pay for it!

I haven't but my hubby has. We were in a deli that had olive tasting. So he put the map he wanted to buy in his back pocket so his hands would be free to eat olives. We did that for a while, then walked out and got in the car. A hundred miles or so later, we discovered the map in his pocket. We didn't travel the same way going home, so didn't do anything about it then. Months later we were going by there again, so he went to the cashier and told her he wanted to pay for a map. She couldn't understand why he didn't want a map, but wanted to pay for one. So he paid, left without the map this time.

No. If I ever walked out with something it would be with the intent to steal it! Seriously, though, No, I am well aware that what I have in my hand or cart belongs to someone else until I pay for it. If I ever get so old I forget something that elementary, I think I will simply dive off my 16th floor balcony and leave the world to the young. I always believed that most of the "forgetfulness" in stores is dishonesty and the only reason anyone goes back is they remember that they are on candid camera and don't wnat their neighbors to see them doing the perp walk to the police car.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I guess it depends on the value of the object(s) and the trouble it would take to go back to the store.

One time I got home from the supermarket. It was one of those self-checkout places. Lo and behold, there was a huge chunk of fresh salmon that someone had put into a plastic bag, but forgot to take. I unwittingly loaded that bag with my own stuff, and didn't notice the fish package until I unpacked in my kitches. The price on the salmon was around $15.

The customer who forgot it most likely paid for it.

What would YOU do in my situation?

Yes, while wrangling two preschoolers out of the store I realized I completely forgot to pay for the item I went in to get and still had in my hand along with my car keys. I promptly returned and paid for it and would do the same today.

We walked out of a restaurant once, when our kids were little. Went back in to pay. Another time, I was busy with my little grandson and forgot to leave a tip for a waiter. I thought of it a little later. After his nap, I took him back, apologized and gave the waiter the tip.

Yes, I would always go back and pay. Couldn't feel right about stealing.

Yes, once when I was younger, and I was shocked that I got out of the store with it. Then I went back in and paid for it.

I went looking for a new coat one night when I was about 25, found a black leather jacket, tried it on, and then went to look for a couple of shirts, paid for them, and then walked out of the store to go to the car, when I realized I had the leather jacket plus my jacket on my arm, so I went back in and paid for the leather coat. I was shocked that there was no security or there were no alarms that went off, but I was out of the store and almost out of the mall, and if it wasn't 15 degrees outside I would have been.

I just couldn't go out of the mall without paying for it so I went back.

I don't remember ever doing that but I remember when I was a kid I was with my father in a men's clothing store and he was trying on hats. That's back when stores had people who actually helped you with what you were shopping for. My father got to talking to one of these sales people and when we left and was out on the sidewalk, went to put his hat on his head only to find one already there that he was only trying on. He of course returned it. I would do the same.
