How to convince cousin's mom...?
Hi
So me and my cousin send letters back and forth to each other (she lives 20 minutes away) and she said that her mini frog just died. Well, I am guessing she wants another pet so I suggested a guinea pig. (I know your supposed to get 2, and their social, but her and my piggies will have like play-dates if she gets one). Anyway, she has had a guinea pig before, it was the family pet, his name was Buddy, he died a few months ago at 6 years old. Well, my cousin's parents thought the guinea pig smelled bad. So we are trying to find a way for her to get a guinea pig, how to convince her parents into letting her get one. Oh, and by the way, my other cousin, (her brother) has a frog, his frog murdered hers, so yeah he has a frog and now she's pet-less. So, please help, and best answer gets 5 STARS. (no trolling)
PLEASE answer!

Unlike animals like dogs, guinea pigs do not enjoy play dates. Meeting new animals is very stressful and triggers territorialism. That means the visiting guinea pig may be attacked or killed.
Guinea pigs should never live alone. Your cousin needs to get two pigs, and you should not be counting on playdates as the only form of socialization.
Honestly, sounds like guinea pigs are not right for your cousin. They are certainly a huge step up in maintenence, space, time, and money from a frog. And since her parents have had a bad experience one time, what makes you think they will like it a second time? Clearly your cousin didn't clean it often enough, which is the reason for smell, but I doubt she will behave much differently a second time around. Just something to think about. Maybe she should get a much smaller animal that is easier to maintain, such as a hamster, mice, gerbils, etc.

You can always get an oder thing for the pigs. And you could put the pig in ger room if she didn't mind the smell. But play dates aren't the best, I have 6 pigs, (and a HUGE cage) And one is still really freaked about the guinea pigs. So yeah...good luck.
Source(s): I never erally noticed a smell....but it could be cuz i have 6 guinea pigs 8 mice 3 dogs 1 cat and 2 horses....maybe thats why? lol - 10 years ago
ive never tried this, probally because i dont have guinea pigs, but this seems like something to try out or to show her mom that you can buy stuff to keep the odor down.
goodluck !:)
