Incredible as it may seem, Americans transfer more than a trillion dollars each year to low-income families through a bewildering variety of programs, all in the name of fighting poverty and inequality. That’s about seven times the cost of the Iraq war.

last I checked the poverty rate is about half of what it was before we started the "war"?

I don't think you're ever going to do away with poverty but if every gov. program would get a 50 percent reduction toward it's goal... most would be doing pretty good...

of course, it's been expensive...probably a few trillion...

The Liberals are doing quite well thanks to the republican house and senate members who have vowed an oath of loyalty to grover Norquist to serve the interests of their corporate donors, the Koch brothers for example and not the people who voted for them. The Democrats won big in Wisconsin and California. The empire of Fox News mogul Rubert Murdock has fallen and he might even go to prison. This is a good time for the Democrats.

oh it has dragged most of the rest of the people not already poor into poverty and has costed something like 14 trillion and counting a few million more every minute

add: oh and now since almost everyone is poor they cant afford to give poor people food stamps anymore so what little they were doing is now not possible so all you people on foodies i feel for you

The price tag is 20 million children born out of wedlock and fatherless who are destined to spend life between projects and jail.

As [Pulitzer prize winning syndicated columnist] George Will put it, “Americans, endowed by their solicitous government with an ever-expanding array of entitlements, now have the whiny mentality that an entitlement culture breeds.”

How is the war on crime?

We still got crime after all this time and all this money.

I guess we should just give up right?

actually it's almost as big a waste of time as the conservative war on drugs
