in the uk, do you have to keep staffys on leads?
i have a 2 and half year old staffie she is VERY well behaved... walks off lead everywhere, sticks by either my side or my kids... does as she is told etc... doesnt bother people or other animals..
a friend said today though that i can get into trouble for having a staffy off lead? is there a law that states you have to keep staffys in leads at anytime?
many thanks for any info!!
seriously she is the friendliest dog in the world an untrained / unsocialized dog came up to her once and snapped, she just carried on walking it doesnt phase her,... she is tiny staff but a rottie was being too boisterous once she put him on his back but in a nice way,... lol...
seriously very well trained would butter bread if i told her too! :s lol xx

Unless subject to a control order by the court, then no more than any other breed that can be legally owned. It is not one of the listed breeds contained in the Dangerous Dogs Act.
An owner has an obligation to keep a dog under their control on or off lead, & that is not breed specific.
There are many parks, nature reserves, common land & castle grounds where dogs can legally be exercised off lead.
I live in England.

no the rules are the same for your staffie as they are for any other dog however certain dogs have to be muzzled but not the staffie. its wise to keep any type of dog on the lead in a built up area for its own safety just incase the dog chases something or is startled by a noise and runs into traffic.it is ok to let your staffie run around off lead with all the other dogs when they are in a park if you are confident that he is well behaved. i have seen many breeds of dog that are not well behaved and i can tell you most of them are not staffies.

Where I live, the law is that all dogs are to be on leashes. I would like to warn you that we had dogs just as well trained as yours is. One day, a man who raised Dobies rode by on his bike, without his dogs, and my dogs ran after him. Our dogs were off leash for a couple years before this happened, but after that, we never allowed them off leash, except in fenced areas.
This site may give you needed information. http://www.endangereddogs.com/EDDRDogLaw.htm
Also, where I live, if the dog isn't on a leash, and some dog comes up and attacks it, both parties involved would lose out.
You should also keep up daily on the laws, as they can change at any given moment.

Lock jaws = myth. They're powerful, yes, but do not "lock"!
I'm sure you would have leash laws in the UK, and I'm also pretty sure that there are breed specific legislation laws in place over there as well, but am not certain. I would phone the appropriate authorities and get everything sorted about before anyone gets into trouble!

I don't know about the UK but here in Toronto it's against the law unless you're in an off-leash dog park.
