who named America America ?

who named America America ? like who named it and why did they call it America and not something else....what is the meaning of the word America ?

if your not American what is your countries name ?

    John Cabot named it America,after Richard Americk a Welsh born merchant who traded out of Bristol,and funded his voyage across the Atlantic.

    Martin Waldseemüller was the first to use the term. He was a cartographer and on a map he made named it America after Amerigo Vespucci because he was wrongly informed that Vespucci had been the one to discover the Americas.
