The Wire is my favorite show. Which is yours?
I just finished watching season 5 of The Wire . After watching this I took a moment to gather my thoughts. After doing so, I came to the conclusion that The Wire is the greatest show ever.
This, of course, is my opinion. What do you think is the "greatest" tv show and why?

I go through phases. I'll think one show is the best, but then when I'm waiting for the gap between seasons, or when the show ends and I discover a new show and fall in love with it completely.
At this moment in time, I think the "greatest" show ever is Gilmore Girls. This is because it's funny and lighthearted, but it can also be serious and more sombre. It is completely outrageous sometimes, but at the same time it is completely 100% believable. It subtly adresses important issues (teen pregnancy, family problems, class, wealth etc) but it does so in a subtle way. The best thing about it, for me, is the characters. The main characters (namely, Lorelai Gilmore) are all amazingly inspiring and great role models; however, they are believable because they make their share of mistakes too. The relationship between characters is amazing and because the show spanned seven years you really saw them grow and change. What's even better is that the show, up until Season 7, was a family thing- created, written, directed and produced by Amy and Daniel Palladino, and because of this lots of the characters were based on real people. Because the creators knew the real-life characters so well, they could easily translate them into their fictional identities so you felt closer and more connected with the people.
The only problem with Gilmore Girls was the final season. The Palladinos split up and in the end both of them left. They left the crew with a complicated and delicate plot, which was extremely hard to handle; in the wrong hands, it could have gone terribly wrong, and in some ways it did. Events either happened way too fast or dragged out over long periods of time...the final season did not live up to the standard of the previous six, almost certainly because of the loss of the Palladinos. However, towards the end of the season Lauren Graham (the person who plays Lorelai) took control and the show picked up again to finish on a very open-ended but very good finale. So the show was saved.
Sorry went a bit off-topic there :P I believe Gilmore Girls is the greatest show ever because of the hilarity, outrageousness and fast pace of the show, but also because of it's subtle adressing of issues and strong bonds with characters. The characters are truly inspiring, and it is just in general a very relatable and feel-good show! So for that reason, I love it ;)

Well Degrassi is my favorite show. But i can't choose what the 'greatest' TV show is, seeing as i haven't seen every single TV show ever made.
