Do you dress your dog?

Do people realize that this is not only unnecessary for most breeds..that it can be harmful as well..can cause over heating...I seen this woman at work who brought in a maltese..in 90 degree temp..dressed in this tight little shirt...the poor things tongue was hanging out and he was having trouble breathing...when I told her he was over heating because of the shirt..her response was he looks so cute!!!

Update:

Chinese Crescents...hairless..needs sunscreen or clothes for it's protection...Mexican hairless..(can't pronounce or spell real name) same thing...No dog with fur needs clothes winter or summer... a dogs coat insulates them from heat and cold...they get rid of excess heat through their mouth and paw pads..people who dress pets should be forced to wear fur coats in a steam room.

Update 2:

It's one thing to put a light coat on a thin coat dog in the winter to protect them...last I checked it's pretty much summer time right now...I'm referring to people that dress their pets for amusement not for the sake of the pet.

yes i do dress my dog ... i do not dress her in the summer because it is too hot but where i live in canada it is cold more than hot ... i started dressing her to cover a disgusting tumor that random strangers could not shut the **** up about when i would walk her ... i put her in a t-shirt and no tumor seen, and it was back to smiles all around ... the tumor has been excised but she does not mind wearing a t-shirt or hoodie ... and if this is abuse, please call the police:

http://i390.photobucket.com/albums/oo349/hoolagal/... - if she was overheated, why would she crawl under a blanket wearing a t-shirt ???

and you are not very educated on dogs, my dog has a very thin coat in which she will shiver when out in colder weather ... but if i throw a jacket on her she can stay out and play for hours ... so yes, some dogs other than hairless ones can benefit from clothing ...

I have 2 huge malamutes, so NO.

I hate when people dress their dogs in 'human' style clothes, I went to a dog show last year and a group of awful, fat women had these tiny chi.s dressed in pink tiaras and diamonte trims, in an attempt to win 'prettiest *****' in the fun show catagory.

It was in the blazing heat earlier this summer, the competition judge ordered they remove the obsene garments from the poor dogs and leave the show ground

the only clothes I would put on a dog is a dog coat if they needed it

I would never even consider dressing my dogs in clothes, the poor things get warm enough as it is with their fur coat let alone outfits to. I think that people don't deserve a dog if their goning to dress it up because they think it looks cute. Dogs are living creatures and should not be treated like dolls or acessories.

No I don't, not really. It is winter here and my dog shakes a lot, so when we go out to the park to play she might put a little sweater on, and she actually likes it, but that is because it is cold and she shakes when she doesn't have it on in the winter.

My other dog has to wear boots where she lives because it snows and when she goes for walks the snow cuts her feet, so she gets little boots only to protect her feet from bleeding.

But I do not dress them or anything because I think it is cute, and as soon as we get home it all comes off, and I never do that in summer. I wouldn't even do it if they wouldn't shiver and if her feet didn't bleed in the snow.

While I do agree that dogs who have good thick coats should not be wearing clothes, you seem to be unaware that some of the single-coated toy breeds get very cold very quickly, and if left outside in the winter for a few hours could die of exposure.

I live in the snow belt. When the temps hit less than 10 degrees, my Minpins go out in polar fleece, armed with paw wax to keep them from getting frostbite on their pads. They do not have any fur between the toes that grows out in the winter, like double-coated dogs have.

Italian Greyhounds have an even worse problem with cold than the Minpins......

Don't like clothes on dogs? Don't dress yours.

Omg no way lol! I never put clothes on my dog! I hate the way some people put clothes on their dogs when it is not remotely necessary and have their nails painted and dye their fur etc! If I was a dog there is no way I would like that. I think what people like that are looking for are dolls not dogs.

    Hi,

The only time I put anything on my poodle is when he has just been groomed and it rains hard, he then has a little red rain thing that he wears. Other then this, no I wouldn't dress him because I don't believe in it personally. I think you can go too far with this sort of thing. However, this is just my opinion.

Your colleague was being cruel to her dog though she probably didn't look upon it as such.

    I agree with you!

My Chihuahua has been put in a shirt a couple times, but I didn't do it.

It bugs me to death when I see little dogs coming in all dressed up w/ the booties. It is so unnecessary and not really cute, but weird. I've seen a Chihuahua in a SKIRT!!

In 90 degree weather??I won't even dress my dog unless it's cold or Halloween..But when I do it's only a couple times a year if any.Other than that she has her fur to keep her warm.
