Question about Amazon's "Universal Wishlist Button"?

I installed Amazon's universal wishlist button to add items from non-amazon sites onto my Amazon.com wishlist. However, it seems pointless because you cannot have someone purchase those items because your shipping address is not posted on those external sites.

For example, if I added something from Etsy.com to my Amazon wishlist, would anyone be able to purchase that item off of my wishlist? Because once you click on that item to buy it, it takes you to the website and asks for the shipping address that you would like to ship it to. I don't want to post my full shipping address for everyone to see.

What is the point of amazon's universal wishlist button if you cannot actually have someone buy you those items?

Just because your address isn't provided on those other sites doesn't mean people can't buy those gifts for you. The person could always have it shipped to THEM as the buyer, and then give it to you as a gift. Or ask you directly for your address if they need to ship it to you. (I'm assuming you are worried about the public at-large seeing the address, as I would expect anybody close enough to you to send you a present is going to be trustworthy enough to have your address.)

I think that universal button is great - my husband's family all use Amazon wishlists at Christmas time, but I always stuck to a paper list because not everything I wanted was available at Amazon. Now that I can add things from other sites, I'm happy to use the list. It makes it easy for everybody to see exactly what I want and where to get it. And as long as you have people who check off the gifts they've bought elsewhere, everybody can see what's already taken and you won't get so many duplicate gifts. Not to mention that I can add things to the list all year round whenever I think of something else I'd like, and then when Christmas comes around I don't have to rack my brain to come up with ideas. And it's there at birthday time, too, if someone needs it.

Just think of it this way - how would someone send you a gift if they bought it out in a physical store? They'd get your address somehow and ship it to you, or give it to you in person. After all, people did give gifts before the internet was invented...
