Why do marketers do this?

So you see a commercial for a product, let's say an egg cracking device, and they draw you in. Then they show a series of morons having horrible egg-cracking experiences. There may be a lady trying to crack an egg with a pencil. Or the guy that crushes the egg in his hand as he smashes it on a bowl like an ataxic ape. Then they show the scowl on an innocent child's face as an errant eggshell fragment wounds his mouth while eating his incapable mother's quiche.

So... Why is this their approach? I find it somewhat insulting.
