Name of romantic movie: man writes letters to woman and meets her with a rose on her clothes?

I'm trying to figure out the title of a romantic film set in the 1940's (probably filmed in the '90's), where a man gets a book whose previous owner wrote in, and he contacts the woman by letter.

The two build a long-distance relationship but decide not to send each other pictures of themselves.

The guy is sent to serve in the war, and makes a stop to where the woman lives. The pair agree to meet at a train station and she says that she will be wearing a red rose with her outfit.

When the man sees a woman wearing a rose, he has doubts about confronting her because she is not as attractive as he would have wished.

But he decides to introduce himself, but the woman explains that she is a decoy, and the lady he is looking for is sitting in a nearby restaurant... the man finally meets up with the woman he had been writing to, and they live happily ever after.

I think you may be looking for the short film titled "The Book and the Rose" (2001) -- Stars: Chris Kennedy, Patrick Tuttle and Carey Lessard

A young math teacher comes across a first edition of Anna Karenina and falls in love with the previous owner based on her extensive scribblings in the margin. The film is based on the popular short story, "The People With the Roses," by Max Lucado. The Book and the Rose is set in the 1940's and is a timeless love story about divergent paths, choices, and a meeting of hearts and ideals.

EDIT: I finally found the trailer here: http://www.christianfilmdatabase.com/review/the-bo...

Oh. That's the short story "the rose" by S.I. Kishor, from 1943, plagiarized but slightly altered by Max Lucado in "And the Angels Were Silent". It was posted online back in 1996, & seen in the Collier magazine

No doubt there are films with a similar plot

so she sends her ugly friend to meet him to make sure he isn't shallow, but at the same time shows how shallow she is? and how could they live happily ever after if he just got sent to war? this movie sounds terrible.
