Is it law for new built houses to have downstairs bathroom?

I heard that with new building regulations, all newly built houses must have a down stairs bathroom. Is it true? Does it depend on if the house is to be as a home or for resale?

Cheers

i dont think there is a regulation for that! i help build houses, and the ones were doing or have done recently have no basement!

But one house we done, was a basement house!

It had to have a bathroom, and the same stipulations was for it as a single story house with no basement!

I would recommend if you are thinking about having a basement under a house, to go ahead and plumb it for a bath! A lot less cheaper, then to have a plumber come in and tear up things afterwards!

    No it isn't law.

Some houses have a WC downstairs if there is room on the floor plan. But I have not seen any new ones with a bathroom downstairs unless it's been specifically designed as an "upside down" house.

No it is not law. Many new houses have a ground floor cloakroom, but even that is not mandatory.
