PT Cruiser won't start...solenoid?

I have a 2003 PT Cruiser that will not start. When I attempt to start it and turn the key, it clicks once and does nothing. I have checked the battery terminals and they are not corroded and the connection coming from the battery appears secure at the solenoid. My initial thoughts are that the solenoid is either going out or has gone out. It did this to me yesterday and wouldn't start for three tries and then after a minute, it cranked up as normal and did so the rest of the night. Any advice that doesn't include a hefty mechanic bill would be appreciated.

Take a hammer or heavy wrench and tap the starter to get the brushes straight. This could correct the problem temporarily. Remember tap the starter dont slam it.
