My Mother-in-law's current PC, running a Vista version will not display any USB devices.?

The little bubble pops up saying device found and device ready to use but I can not find the memory sticks or mp3 player in the "My Computer" window. I tried device manager and no yellow ! show up. I tried Disk Management and no drive showed there. There are like 5 extra "Removable Disk" icons that have nothing actually in them....

Run Check Disk. Go to Device Manager and make sure they are listed as functioning.

Get a vacuum cleaner and suck out any trash in the USB ports or plugs.

When was the last time they functioned properly?

Added: Okay I looked at your question again and it sounds like you know computers.

Try cleaning the ports. USB is notorious for this.

Does your mother-in-law smoke? Or live in a dusty environment?
