What is a good laptop for school and gaming?

I'm looking for a laptop that works well for school work, meaning that it should be portable and easy to use, but also I would love to play games like Battlefield 3, Rage, Mass Effect 2 and 3 among others. So in other words, what's a laptop that's a portable powerhouse that could run these huge games at least 40 FPS? And, also to add to the difficulty, I would prefer that it stays below $1,500.

That's actually not that hard. I already know what you want: the Asus A53SV (link in source). It's about $750, it features a second gen i5, nVidia Gt540M, 6GB of RAM, 750GB 7200RPM HDD, all of which is suitable for high end gaming. Meanwhile, the battery life can hold up to 5 hours on a single charge, and it is considered quite light at only 5.7lbs.

If this is not good enough for you, check out the Asus G53 series. It is a 15 inch gaming laptop that can run all of todays games on max settings. It is quite heavy and bulky though.

I am not sure what the system requirements for each of those games are, but for prospective, most of the major computer manufacturers use the same parts as one another. For example, my Dell laptop uses a Toshiba CD Drive, most use either Seagate or WD hard drives and the last time I checked there were only a hand full of LCD screen manufacturers. So look at the company websites to find a computer with the specs you need. There are a few brands that I personally stay away from because of terrible experiences, but those were several years ago and I know people using most of them without issue.
