Why do dogs pee and poop in the places they do?

I have two Chihuahuas one male (3-4 yrs) and another female (7 months). I wanted to believe they were potty trained but I am noticing that when either my boyfriend or I are not looking one likes to pee on new things in the house (the boy). And example of this would be the Christmas gifts which had to be kept covered i plastic under our tree and around the house (the boy). We have a small front yard and that is the place where they are trained to go if playing outside. If one of us goes inside to pick up the phone I notice that instead of going in the grass, they would rather go on the porch. The girl is less likely to do this unless it's hot and she wants to go quickly and go back into the house. the boy however will pee on our porch chairs, decorative statues. I'm getting sick of cleaning the porch every day. This only happens when one of us isn't around. Why is this? What can we do better? I'm sick of my boyfriend making excuses for the dogs. I'm convinced there is something we are doing wrong or we are missing in our training.

Sorry if my question does not seem clear I'm very sleep deprived.

Hi. Dogs especially male dogs, pee on things to mark their territory. And they usually pee in the same places, again and again. They are leaving their smell there. That is the way that dogs communicate with each other. Have you ever noticed how while you take your dog for a wake, he will stick his face in every possible place and start sniffing it? That is because he is making out what the smell is and which dog left it there. Then he will pee their to leave his own territory. It is like a constant fight with other dogs which area is theirs. Now I noticed you said you have a male and female. And I am guessing they are neutered and spayed? (Since you wouldn't want babies) But sometimes if they are not they may also be leaving their smell as a dominance thing. And urinating indoors is one thing that un-neutered male dogs do. So if he is not neutered this might be why he is having these behavior issues. Maybe you should take him to the vet and ask about him.

    Best of luck

You must honestly stroll her with a leash to the pad on a constant time table, and in particular while you feel she demands to poop. I recognize that sounds foolish however the extra she is picked as much as cross to the potty, the extra she's going to study to attend round to be picked up -- or probably no longer wait in any respect. Obviously that's what is taking place -- she's no longer looking ahead to some thing, she's simply pooping whilst and in which the urge moves her. If you stroll her to the pad more commonly ample, ultimately you are going to have a luck after which you'll be able to compliment her and make a massive fuss over what a well woman she is.
