If it is bad enough they will delay the takeoff, but planes take off during rainy weather all the time.

There is no way anyone can predict that there is going to be thunder and lighting at the exact time that your plane is scheduled to takeoff on Wednesday. There is maybe a chance of storms sometime during the day. There is also a chance there will be no storms at all. I would not worry about it. Its way too early worry about Wednesdays weather.

Nope, thunder and lightning storms at an airport will delay flights until the thunder and lightning stops. Rainstorms without thunder and lightning usually will not delay flights unless the storm is a very heavy storm. I was delayed at an airport not long ago for about two hours because of lightning storms in the vicinity of the airport. As soon as the lightning moved on, we were allowed to take off soon after that.

If the thunderstorm is right over the airport then most likely the take off will be delayed until the storm has moved on. Thunderstorms are short lived affairs and 15 minutes delay is enough. Most likely the crew can make this delay up on route so you get to your destination on time.

No, when I was in Las Vegas a few years ago there was lightning close to the runway and they wouldn't let the people on the flight before us get off the plane. Then they finally got off and we got on and we had to sit and wait because there was more lightning.

  • it can .. but it wont because while thunder and lighting and rain stuff is goin on there is gonna be low communication between the plane and the flight tower (or however you call it):] Enjoy :]
